A good read!

I bought this book for my grandson who is nearly eleven. He is an avid reader, but hadn't read any of Joe Craig's books before. He loved it and is now enjoying the next book in the series.

Absolutely ridiculous.

And I bloody well loved it.

Pure fun, great story, great writing, with some really hilarious moments. Better than Alex Rider because it doesn't try to justify itself with silly explanations of how this could really happen, honest!!11!! Jimmy's a genetically modified assassin, got that? Then let's get on with the exciting stuff.

Plus, the political setting, whilst implausible in some moments, is actually really interesting and original and new and just... different.

Kids will love it, twentysomethings pretending they're kids will love it.

Don't bother buying just Killer, get them all in one go, because I guarantee you'll want the next book in the series straight away.

Sparkling Start To A Cracking Series - Catch It Before It's Massive!

15/11/2009

At first I thought this book was going to be yet another imitation of the ALEX RIDER series - a young spy sent on a mission and all that goes with that. But the JIMMY COATES series is so much more. And to my surprise, it's better. It's more exciting than Alex Rider, it's more believable, it's more surprising and even more original.

Alongside all of the amazing action (helicopter chase along the Thames, anyone?) there is a wonderful mystery element that keeps you guessing - and gasping - all the way from the first word through to the final full stop.

Jimmy isn't like other young spies. For a start, he's the one that the government is out to eliminate. He's the focus of the whole thing, rather than having to go out there and 'save the world' every time. It's a brilliantly conceived - and all too realistic - conspiracy plot that propels you from page to page through the whole series. And that's the other difference when it comes to Jimmy Coates - this is one series that improves with every book, rather than sequels being pale imitations of the first story. As the plot thickecns and the characters develop, the series grows from this sparkling beginning into something very special indeed.

I'd also suggest that younger readers will be more comfortable with this - and, indeed, gripped by this - than by Alex Rider. Anyone from 9 upwards will devour this whole series - boys and girls alike.

I've deliberately tried not to reveal too much of the plot because I don't want to spoil the secrets, and don't be put off by the rather baby-ish covers. The words inside are remarkable - a really mature, well thought-out thriller that will dazzle any reader from 9 to 19... to 99!

I've no doubt than within a couple of years almost everybody on the planet will have heard of JIMMY COATES and one day it will make the basis of a great film, but for now it's a dearly loved and highly regarded secret among the cult following who've mainly heard about it through the web. I urge you to check it out now before it tips over into mega status and share the secret!

Superb book

I am 9 and my Mum bought this book for me. It is really exciting and I had to keep reading it until the end. It made me want to buy the rest of the books in the series.

Best action series

21/02/2009

I think this is the best series of action books out there because the thrills and chases are much more original than in Alex Rider or any of the others. There is also more to think about because the character of Jimmy Coates faces many interesting dilemmas to do with his character and who he is.
Also the books get even better as the series goes along. You should start with this one to get into and then be thrilled by every Jimmy Coates adventure!!! They are the BEST!!!!
